ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS IN ACTIVE DIRECTORY MIGRATION

Issue: Not able to add a machine to domain.
Error: The domain controller could not be contacted.
Solution:
1.Check whether you have configured the address of the domain controller in the Preferred DNS server column of LAN properties.
2.Check whether you have entered the Fully Qualified Domain Name in the domain column of the computer properties.
3.Check the connectivity of the LAN cable.

Error: The RPC server is not available.
Solution:
1.Check If there is any Internal or external firewall present in the network.
2.If the windows firewall is enabled, disable it.
3.Check whether the 135 port is opened from client to the server (goto command prompt---type telnet 192.77.1.43 135.
4.The command prompt will show a blank screen if the port is open.
Note: 192.77.1.43 is the address of the Domain controller.

Issue: Users cannot login to the domain.
Error: The Domain controller for the domain is unavailable or not responding.
Solution:
1.Check whether the domain controller is pinging from any other machine in the same network.
2.Check the LAN connectivity of the machine.
3.Check whether the correct username, password and domain name are selected in the login page.

Active Software Update Point

When the software update point site system role is created and configured as the active software update point, the software update point components are installed and enabled. As part of the installation, the WSUS Control Manager component is installed on the software update point computer and is responsible for periodically checking the health of WSUS. The WSUS Configuration Manager component of the SMS Executive service on the site server initially configures the WSUS settings with the settings that were specified while creating the software update point site system role. The WSUS settings are verified every hour, by default, and if any settings have been changed WSUS Configuration Manager will change them to coincide with the software update point settings. This emphasizes the fact that all settings should be made in the Software Update Point Component properties in Configuration Manager and not from within the WSUS console.

Active Directory Replication

The replication topology of Active Directory directory service provides the network of connections between domain controllers in a forest according to their location in Active Directory sites. A site is an Active Directory object that you create and configure to represent an area of good network connectivity, typically corresponding to a local area network (LAN). The site object is associated with a set of one or more subnets, which are objects that identify a range of IP addresses. Each domain controller has an IP address that maps to a subnet, and that mapping in turn identifies the site of the domain controller. By recognizing domain controllers according to site locations, the replication system ensures that each domain controller is updated with directory changes in the most efficient and timely manner possible, given network conditions and directory service configuration. The replication topology is generated automatically at regular intervals to accommodate network and configuration changes, and is designed to ensure that all domain controllers are connected without redundancy and with minimum cost.
